Abstract

This article outlines improvements to Irish child protection laws with introduction of new offences and a revised vetting requirements under the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 and other legislation. Explains: (1) the current vetting procedure for prospective employees who have unsupervised access to children and vulnerable adults; (2) the establishment of the National Vetting Bureau; (3) the database system containing the register of relevant organisations, register of vetted persons and register of specified information; and (4) the new vetting process.
