Duff, Lorna (2005) Methods to reducing Absenteeism in a Wholesale Environment. Undergraduate thesis, National College of Ireland.
This report is based on methods that can be used to reduce absence levels. The environment chosen was one that was most familiar with, a wholesale environment in the Pharmaceutical Industry. Currently there is no formal policy on managing absenteeism and therefore an ideal opportunity to find out what is currently been done and what can be improved on. There was a lot of backing from Senior Management which was a great help in order to action some of the initiatives that were brought forward. Changing the culture of absence in any environment is a long and tedious process. This report is only looking at the beginning of this process, and therefore, to actually see some hard evidence that any initiatives put in place actually working, is a long way off. However, there is already a noticeable difference in line managers and supervisors confidence in handling absence issues and what they are expected to do when their employees are absent.
