Abstract

This work describes the reality of racism in Irish society and why it could be detrimental to the future of the Irish economy. Furthermore, it describes the measures that organisations should take to prevent racism in the
workplace and to promote equal opportunities so that all people will receive the same treatment. In addition, although this topic has a social slant and is very broad in its content, I decided to focus mainly upon the economic aspect with its many implications, as I felt that if I had focused on every aspect of this multifaceted subject matter, it would have led to a fragmented piece of
work. Instead, due to having narrowed down this subject area to, as mentioned, the economic side, I feel that a truer understanding of the implications of racism in our increasingly multicultural society is reached.
