Abstract

This management report examines the variables surrounding 2 performance appraisal systems in separate companies- Greenstar and Takeda. Both Hr had found problems with their respective appraisal systems in term of engagement of employees and management with the process. My research is concentrated on uncovering specifically why the problems of engagement with the process exist and what the organisations can do to alleviate the issues. My core objective being to uncover whether the issues both companies are encountering can be aided through the dissection so to speak of the performance appraisal formal meetings which would entail holding separate appraisal interview for administrative purposes and for developmental purposes thus seeking to ensure both organisation and its workers extract maximum value from the process.

During the course of the research the author has found that through the use of interviews and questionnaires that the appraisal systems in operation had many fundamental faults revolving around communications, objectivity and participation primarily.

The report suggests that both organisations can overcome these difficulties by introducing an appraisal by objectives appraisal system which is characterised by high levels of participation and mutually defined performance objectives. And this can be achieved but first it is recommended that management undergo external training on areas revolving the appraisal process while simultaneously a directive must be introduced by which management will be measured on their use of the process.
