This report examines employee retention in small to medium enterprises in the retail sector. The different areas of employee retention that are discussed are training and development, performance management, pay and reward and job design. The importance of employee retention and the small to medium sector are also discussed. Various theorists and authors are examined along with the qualitative research. The research method used to gather information for this research is the self administered questionnaire. The results of the questionnaire are presented and discussed in relation to the aspects of employee retention given by the theorists. After the conclusion of the data analysed, recommendations are made to small to medium firms in the retail sector who wish to increase their retention rates.
