Abstract

Face detection is the first step for an automatic face recognition system. For colour images, skin colour filter is considered as an important method for removing non-face pixels. In the paper, we will propose a novel and efficient detector for skin colour regions. The detector processes the image in three steps: lighting compensation, skin colour filter and mask refinement. Experimental results show that our detector is more robust and efficient than other skin colour filters.
