Anthony Reddy Associates is an architectural practice which was founded in 1982 by Anthony Reddy which has gained a reputation for creating innovative designs across a wide range of sectors. As one of the largest practices in the Republic, the potential benefits of harnessing its knowledge resource has long been recognised as a key source of competitive advantage. This research examines the benefits of knowledge management and looks at methods of transferring tacit and explicit knowledge within the practice. It will use experiences from other organisations as a starting point for developing the knowledge management system and will examine the benefits and pitfalls of using communities of practice. This paper will then suggest strategies, structures and cultures that were found to be necessary to facilitate the development of a learning organisation where the true benefit of knowledge as a resource was realised.
