This project interrogates building planning application data in the city of Palo Alto, California with a view to identifying useful trends to the planning department and increasing productivity in workflow. Publicly available datasets from the Palo Alto open data website will be combined with privately obtained datasets to give both an overview of the scale and complexity of the works being undertaken in the city and also the efficiency with which these permits travel through the planning department. The analysis will then discern whether any useful trends can be identified that could be beneficial to the relevant local planning authorities and lead to increase in the efficiency of their working procedures.
