Abstract

1 Purpose Of The Research -The Problem
I carried out the research to evaluate the issues to be considered by management in creating and maintaining a climate and culture to support e-learning in an organisation.

2 Literature Review
I carried out a literature review on a number of published books and Internet articles from internationally recognised experts in the relevant fields. These fields included leadership skills, theories of organisational management, change management, human relations, organisational politics, learning organisations, cultural transformation, metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of training, particular management issues related to Web-based initiatives in organisations, and project management for e-learning.

Amongst the experts whose published works I reviewed, were Michael Armstrong, James A Belasco, William Bridges, Bernard Burns, Denis Child, Gebaner, Charles Handy, Frances Hesselbein, Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Donald Kirkpatrick, Nicolo Machiavelli, Mark McCormack, Tom Peters, Marc Rosenberg, Richard Waterman, and Jack Welsh.

3 Preparing A Hypothesis
The literature review covered sixteen areas. From my analysis of each of these areas I prepared a list of key issues. These formed the basis for the hypothesis i.e. these were the issues I believed management would need to consider.

4 Testing The Hypothesis
I prepared a questionnaire containing twenty-one questions based on the more important issues as I saw them arising from the complete list of key issues. I sent this questionnaire to GuinnessUDV and I elicited their responses in an interview. Responses included factual information, opinions and feedback on practical experiences at GuinnessUDV.

5 Analysing The Data And Preparing A Solution To The Problem
I analysed the data from the interview and prepared a set of solutions to the problem taking into account my analysis of the literature review. I have prepared this set of solutions in the form of a 'roadmap' to guide management in creating and maintaining a climate and culture to support e-learning in an organisation.
