Throughout this thesis the Author will discuss the contribution foreign direct investment has made in the development of the economy of the Slovak Republic and the attractiveness of Eastern Europe as an investment location. The Author also discusses the issue of globalisation, its pros and cons and the emergence of multinationals as economic powers in their own right. With the global business environment experiencing unprecedented change, it is necessary for both companies and countries to remain competitive in the face of the challenges posed. The relevance of the eastward expansion of the European Union also presents huge opportunities for companies to take advantage of the considerable incentives offered by governments in the region.
